Nattokinase and You
What is Nattokinase?
Nattokinase is an enzyme with powerful health properties, and comes from a traditional Japanese food known as 'natto'.
More precisely, the Nattokinase enzyme is produced during the fermentation process for soybeans, which are the principal ingredient in Japanese natto.
There are a number of potential health benefits to Nattokinase, as evidenced by its rise in popularity over the years. In this blog article we'll be covering some of these benefits, and how they may provide a positive, significant impact on your body's health! Carry on reading to find out more!
1. Improved heart health
There is evidence to suggest that Nattokinase can have a positive influence on your blood pressure.
A study into the effects of Nattokinase supplementation on blood pressure found that the use of Nattokinase supplementation resulted in the reduction of Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure (SBP and DBP).
The findings of this study suggest that increasing one's intake of Nattokinase can play an important role in preventing hypertension, as well as treating the condition.
Further research into the supplement has also shown that it can improve circulation, meaning it can also play a vital role in reducing other ailments such as blood clots and blood sugar imbalances!
2. May fortify the immune system
Studies have also been conducted on Nattokinase and its potential links to an enhanced immune system.
It has specifically been shown to positively impact the production of natural killer cells in dogs. In this particular study, it was found that the presence of natural killer cells in the dogs treated with Nattokinase had increased.
It is therefore believed that it may place a role in enhancing immune function and cancer prevention.
3. Anti-inflammatory effect
It has also been shown that Nattokinase can provide an anti-inflammatory effect.
Research into the anti-inflammatory effect of Nattokinase has demonstrated its potential for suppressing acute inflammation.
In fact, several research studies seem to be in agreement that fermented soy products (as well as those containing Nattokinase) can exert this anti-inflammatory effect on various physiological systems.
A standout in this regard is the research conducted through a Japanese public Health Centre-based study, that set out to investigate the link between soy products and mortality. The conclusions arrived at by this same study noted that a higher intake of fermented soy correlated with a lower risk of mortality.
4. May improve cognition
As well as the other things we've gone over in this blog post, Nattokinase has also been studied for its potential impact on cognitive function.
One such study found that Nattokinase was able to provide a marked improvement on cognition, demonstrating that Nattokinase administration prevented mental ailments such as depression, anxiety and memory impairment.
While we of course would encourage anyone to do their own research into Nattokinase and the associated pros and cons, we hope that the above information paints a picture about the potential of this supplement.
